Twin monumental fountains bracket the grand staircase at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s main entrance, energizing the museum’s redesigned Fifth Avenue plaza and enhancing the experiences of visitors and passers-by.The fountains’ strong, square-and-circle geometries connect with the museum’s neoclassical architecture in a fresh, contemporary manner. Both fountains offer seating on their north and south ledges and formal overflows to the east and west. Their radial arrangement of illuminated arches, suspended over a darkly incised reflection pool, flex and extend to reveal iconic, primal, three-dimensional expressions, elegantly transforming, one to another.
